The 5 Star Powerscourt Hotel Resort & Spa located amidst one of the most scenic and historic estates in Ireland, is a 194-room resort showcasing Palladian-style architecture and offering guests a host of amenities. Recently named AA Hotel of the Year, two championship golf courses, a 30,000-square foot luxury spa by ESPA and a signature restaurant are among this luxury hotel’s distinctive attractions and therefore draws thousands of guests every year. Therefore it is critical that the communications solution has high availability so that all patrons can access guest services with ease.
Powerscourt Hotel were using a Siemens phone system, and had requirements to expand the system to include a call centre which would allow the hotel to handle all calls in one department, while also giving the company better insights into call management and performance. Connection of a 30 channel SIP line and installation of an Alcatel IP PBX in Galway Technology Park, with a dedicated VPN to the second location in the Galway Retail Park complex. 50 IP handsets with messaging installed and configured across the two locations, and a call metering package was installed, allowing individual companies to be charged for their calls.
Caller ID and Smart Routing enabled us to display the relevant company name on incoming calls, allowing the receptionist to address callers correctly. The receptionists were fully trained to deal with incoming calls, transfers and messaging.

The head office in Tubbercurry and Sligo Dairies, Swinford and Ballaghdereen Mill already had Alcatel-Lucent equipment installed onsite so no upgrade was required. A central IP system was installed in head office Tubbercurry which runs all remote sites, and this was seamlessly linked to the existing phone systems.
A site survey was conducted at all branches including production, marts and shops and data was collected to ensure that all sites were capable of hosting such a solution. IP handsets installed in all sites, and extensive training carried out with employees. All sites are now linked internally, enabling free calls between sites resulting in significant savings in call costs.
